Tax Code Changes for 2011 Filing
As with every year, the Federal Tax code wants to keep us all on our toes by modifying the already complex provisions of the code. Here are some of the tax law changes that may impact your 2011 filing. Consult with your tax professional to see if any of them may result in additional deductions or revenue that would result in a different tax liability. If you have already filed, check to see if you would qualify for an amended return to be filed.
Got the Gas Pump Blues?
Small business may be the fuel of the economy, but small business owners need fuel as well. And just when you thought it was safe to drive up to the pump, you realize that price on the side of the pump is per gallon, not for the entire tank. Long gone are the days when we could refuel for less than a $20 bill. Now it feels as though we have to take a second mortgage just to cover our monthly costs to commute.
It doesn’t look like the prices will be coming down soon…and yes, it is counterintuitive that even with the prices as high as they are that there appears to be even more traffic on the road. Here are five tips on how you may be able to keep the cost of gas down for your business.
Cyber QuickTip: How to Find Royalty and Copyright Free Images
The article on Pinterest references the fact that as a new channel for social media, creating a buzz on Pinterest is highly dependent upon the use of visually appealing images. We all know that the content of brochures, powerpoint presentations, blog posts, websites and other marketing collateral is enhanced with appropriate and relevant images. But what do you do when you aren’t the next Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz or William Wegman? There are plenty of sources on the web for copyright free images or reasonably priced stock photos that can make your marketing collateral shine.
Two of my go to sites are iStockphoto and Dreamstime. They have a ton of free images available for download and they have reasonably priced ones as well. They offer different formats for your marketing needs. A few others that deserve exploration are Shutterstock, kozzi and Each of these sites offer a wealth of subjects and styles so that you can match the message with an appropriately illustrative image.
Be prepared, though, for the time sink that can be the search for the Holy Grail of that most perfect of perfect images. Because these sites have so many images available, you may be best served by setting a limit on the amount of time that you are spending.
Why the Interest in Pinterest?
Step away from that computer…there is a new social media channel that is garnering significant attention. Pinterest is a social pinboard that has been growing at a faster pace than Facebook had at a similar time in its history. According to published stats, Pinterest garnered more than 7 million unique visitors in December.
I was curious about all of the buzz and decided to check it out for myself. The foundation of the interest in Pinterest seems to be the power of the personal referral. You can create topic specific pinboards, organize and share the things that interest you the most with others. Feel free to browse the pinboards created by others to discover new ideas and opportunities from others who may share your approach to life.
