Building Your Holiday Card Mailing List

Are you getting ready to address your holiday cards? Use this tip to make it easier and faster. Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook can work together to help you create mailing lists for various types of mass mailings such as holiday greeting cards, business letters, and address labels. This capability is called mail merge. Most people know that you can start a mail merge in Word and that you can pull address information from Outlook. However, not so many know that you can also start the mail merge in Outlook.

Cyber-Quick Tip

 Adding Holidays to Outlook
Do you have to grab the wall calendar every time you need to add an upcoming holiday to your Microsoft Outlook calendar? If so, you need to read this tip!

Outlook has little-known feature that automatically adds holidays to your Outlook calendar. Give it a try:
  1. In Microsoft Outlook, choose Tools on the pull-down menu, then select Options.
  2. On the Preferences tab, click the Calendar Options button.
  3. In the center of the dialog box, click the button that says Add Holidays.
  4. Make sure the correct country has been selected, and then choose OK.
  5. Outlook has automatically installed the holidays for your chosen location!

A side note: Outlook 2003 only includes holidays through the end of 2007. If you're not quite ready to upgrade to Office 2007, you can always download holiday updates from various Internet sites, such as Calendar Updates.
